Zona K After School Club is a community of children, parents and caregivers committed to being a welcoming space for ALL. Our program aims to awaken children’s creativity and curiosity through fun and engaging programming in the areas of art and creativity, technology and coding, culinary, communication and public speaking, and body movement. Sound interesting? If so, we're looking for team members who are motivated teachers, coaches, students, babysitters, athletes, artists, computer nerds and anyone ready to play hard and be silly.

Meet the ZONA K team

Sarah Parkerson Gomes, President

Sarah is from Fairbanks, Alaska and is a parent to two young children.  She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Postgraduate Certificate in Early Childhood Mental Health. Before moving to Praia, she worked in Boston in community mental health providing therapy to children and families. She also worked with teachers and schools to support social-emotional learning in the classroom. Sarah is a professor for the Boston University Online Learning Masters of Social Work Program. 

Djanira Silva, Secretary

Djanira is from Praia, daughter of Djoy and Nira, married, mother of two teenagers. She has a degree in Pedagogy, with a postgraduate degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Management. Her first professional challenge was the creation and organization of a kindergarten in 1999 in Praia (Jardim Éden). She then became the director of two Shelters for Children at Risk, in Lem Cachorro, Praia and Centro Juvenil dos Picos, in Achada Leitão, Picos. She worked from 2006 to 2013 as a senior technician at the General Directorate of Basic and Secondary Education, Ministry of Education of Cabo Verde. She now works at the company Consfer, LDA as part of the administration.

Sidi Gomes, Treasurer

Sidi, father of two, has expertise in “Social Space Design” – how to design spaces that help people interact, collaborate, and build better communities – a result of his Architectural Master’s Thesis work. He has over 10 years of experience designing Innovation Centers and Districts, including over one million square feet of built innovation space, in 4 continents, for clients such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, BOEING, MORI BuildingCo., HB Revis, Trinity College, and the CIC. Sidi also has a degree in Fine Arts and has had his work shown at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. 

Sara Pires, General Assembly President

Sara is the mother of Sílvia, aged 14, and holds a Master's degree in Project Management with a specialization in Sustainability and ESG. She is the social project manager at the Fundação Infância Feliz, focusing on children and youth. As one of the founders of Zona K, she contributes to strengthening community participation and developing sustainable local solutions. She has experience in coordinating social initiatives, promoting rights in vulnerable contexts, and integrating sustainable practices into social projects.
